Nine walkers had to be rescued yesterday afternoon after losing their bearings on a coastal path at Lynmouth.
The stranded walkers, who it is understood were not familiar with the path, became disorientated at around 3.41pm.
A spokesman for Swansea Coastguard said the walkers became worried with the increasing gale force winds and the slippery terrain.
Members of Lynmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were called to the scene and, after locating the group, escorted them back to a safe, familiar place.
All of the walkers were safe and well and Swansea Coastguard said they were right to contact the emergency services for help.
