Barnstaple got their first away win of the National League Three South West season in style – beating Avonmouth Old Boys 49-24.
The result was in stark contrast to last season’s trip to Barracks Lane when Barnstaple lost by a single point to a last-minute penalty kick.
This time the outcome had long been settled by the final minute with Barum running in eight tries for their first bonus point.
Tom Heard scored a hat-trick of tries, Rob Elliott got two and there was one each for Ryan Carter, Ryan Brend and Winston James. Will Topps kicked three conversions and a penalty.
Steve Perry, the joint head coach, said: “It was a very good performance, the boys played well in all aspects.”
Barnstaple are up to fourth place in the National Three South West table, four points behind leaders Lydney who lost for the first time today, 32-29 at Old Redcliffians.
