Two people were taken to North Devon District Hospital (NDDH) after a crash which left their silver Volkswagen Golf on its roof yesterday evening.

Police, fire and Ambulance crews were called to Old Barnstaple Road in Bideford around 6.30pm yesterday.

On arrival they found the car on its roof in the road near Pilhead Farm.

The 18-year-old male driver and a passenger, of whom the police had no details, had managed to escape from the vehicle and were described by officers as walking wounded.

Both passengers were taken to North Devon District Hospital with minor injuries and the car was recovered from the road.

Police said the crash was caused by ice on the road and warned all motorists to drive with extreme caution in the cold winter weather.
