EXPERTS are inviting beef, sheep and dairy farmers to take soil samples for checking at next week's Grassland and Muck event.
They're offering to inspect the texture looking at levels of pH, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
Visitors will see a working demonstration by forage experts.
There will be a focus on why it's important to measure grass and looking at the new techniques available to identify under-performing paddocks, minimising the risks, surpluses or deficits of grass cover.
EBLEX livestock scientist Dr Liz Genever will present a forum with Ed Green, a beef farmer from Somerset, on Wednesday and sheep farmer Antony Pearce on the Thursday. Their talk will focus on getting more meat from grass and the theory and practice of good grass management.
Grassland & Muck 2014 is on May 21 and 22, with DairyCo, EBLEX and British Grass Society on stand 329. Info at: www.grasslandevent.co.uk
