TOP chef Michael Caines will be bringing a touch of celebrity to Kentisbury Grange Hotel near Barnstaple when he hosts a special six-course tasting event in February.

An Evening With Michael Caines MBE takes place in the hotel's Coach House Restaurant and kicks off with a cocktail and canapé reception before a top-notch fine-dining event.

Joining Michael is Coach House head chef and rising star of North Devon's culinary world, Thomas Carr. Together, they will produce, what promises to be, a delectable six-course tasting menu.

Michael – the two Michelin-starred executive chef at the prestigious Gidleigh Park on the edge of Dartmoor – trained under some of Europe's culinary greats including Raymond Blanc, Bernard Loiseau and Joël Robuchon.

"I'm delighted to be cooking with Thomas and his team at Kentisbury for this gourmet event," said Michael. "Mark [Cushway the owner of Kentisbury] and I go back a long way and it's great to be able to support him in his new venture and showcase my skills here in North Devon."

As each course is introduced, along with tasting notes for the accompanying wine, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy innovative culinary creations by the top chef in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

After service has finished the chefs will mingle in the dining room to discuss the night's menu and the world of high-end cuisine. Michael is keen on what he calls "Food Memories" and the evening will hopefully provide diners with a gastronomic experience they won't easily forget.

An Evening With Michael Caines MBE is on Wednesday, February 12, 7pm for cocktails and canapés and 7.30pm for the meal. Cost: £95 per person (not including wine).

Rooms available. Bookings: 01271 882295. Details: www.kent isburygrange.co.uk.
