TWO celebrity visitors have graced a North Devon aquarium in the space of a few weeks.
The first was BBC presenter and marine conservationist, Monty Halls, who visited Ilfracombe Aquarium recently prior to giving a talk in Combe Martin.
He spent time touring the aquarium and sharing his knowledge of aquatic life.
He left the following note in the visitor book after the visit: "A phenomenal aquarium that is a credit to you all. Your work is so important as you introduce a whole new generation to the marine world – keep it up, superb work."
The second surprise celebrity guest was Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox, who visited the aquarium on Saturday.
She tweeted a photo of herself outside the premises holding one of the aquarium's leaflets.
She said: "#Devonfact1 the staff at Ilfracombe aquarium are brilliant. Went today. Look how pleased I am with my soggy leaflet."
Lawrence Raybone, owner and manager of the aquarium, said: "She visited on Saturday morning, and despite the wet, and blustery conditions, was treated the same as every other aquarium visitor.
"Her tweet suggests she was clearly wowed by the aquarium experience and the degree of care shown by all our staff."
The aquarium has recently been recognised by TripAdvisor who awarded the attraction a Centre of Excellence Award based on the number of positive reviews it has received.
Lawrence added: "We value visitor comments greatly and take enormous pride in receiving prestigious recognition for the efforts and commitment the whole team continually give in providing a valued educational visitor attraction for all to enjoy."
Lawrence said there were plans in the pipeline for expansion to the exhibits and café/shop area.
