GRAHAM WONNACOTT impressed as Devon's Middleton Cup trialists thrashed the ladies' Johns Trophy team at Topsham.

The Bideford bowler skipped his rink to a crushing 38-5 victory as the men won by 141 shots to 73 overall on Sunday.

Many are asking what the fixture will have done for the morale of the ladies' team.

Barnstaple's Colin Woodcock is a late addition for the Middleton Cup trial on May 16, joining club-mate Paul Kinsman, Wonnacott and Bradworthy's Peter Wade.

● George Main of Yarnscombe Short Mat Bowls Club reached the last 16 as he represented Devon in the national under-18 singles competition this season.

In the pairs, Tony Main and Mike Avery also represented their county on the national stage, and teamed up to win the county pairs for the second year running.

Elliot James won the under-18 county competition, with George Main runner-up.

In the North Devon and North Cornwall League, Eagles won Division One, with Falcons fifth in Division Two A. Eagles were also runners-up in the Stevens League Knockout Cup, losing by one shot in the final.

Kestrels won Division One of the Charity League and the Home and Away Cup, with Hawks second in Division Two.

Tony Main is the club singles champion, beating Denys Crocket. Main and Pat Shaw won the club pairs against Jay Shaw and Matthew Avery.
