THIEVES have caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage after breaking into Bideford Cricket Club's ground in Westward Ho!.
Two of the clubhouse windows were broken during the raid, which saw dozens of cans of lager and several bottles of spirits stolen.
A separate building storing the club’s bowling machine was also broken into, with a large pole being taken from the machine to help gain access to the main clubhouse.
The burglary took place between the afternoon of Monday, January 20, and the morning of Wednesday, January 22, when treasurer Andy Davies discovered the scene of disarray.
Club member Ike Aviston said: “We don’t leave a lot in the winter and behind the bar there was just a bit left from a couple of events we had at the end of the season.
“It’s not what was taken that’s the problem, it’s the damage.
“We are not a wealthy cricket club. We struggle at the best of time for finances. It’s disappointing.
“We think we are going forward with everything and we just get a kick in the teeth like this.”
