TONY BEARD – popularly known as the Wag from Widecombe – will deliver his characteristic Devon burr when he opens Landkey show and fête on Saturday week.

The Radio Devon presenter of the long-established Tony Beard Sunday Request Show is at home tending the cattle on his moorland farm as well as being a keen advocate for keeping a connection with our natural environment.

So it is apt that he should be there on Landkey's big day which is a celebration of produce that villagers have worked hard to nurture.

Landkey has run a village show for more than 55 years and, once again, visitors can be sure of displays of fantastic fruit, vegetables, flowers and crafts.

General secretary Leslie Russell says: "Who better than Tony Beard to come and open our show and fête. We look forward to enjoying his wit and wisdom."

The events begin at 2.15pm at the primary school. Also on the agenda are displays from Tarka Gymnastics, a dog agility team, live music by Roger Colome, lots of stands and children's activities and prizegiving at 4pm followed by a produce auction.

You can pick up programmes from the Landkey shop or post office – and then set to beat last year's charity fundraising which topped £400.
