PUB giant JD Wetherspoons will be opening premises in Bideford next week after the company has spent £1.5 million transforming a former furniture and carpet shop.
The pub ,which will be called The Rose Salterne, is set to open on Tuesday at the former site of Bideford Furnishing and Carpet Centre in Bridgeland Street.
Plans for the pub were first revealed in 2011 and since then the carpet and furnishing centre has had to move to a new premises on New Road, the sale has had to be completed and the building has had to be turned into the new pub.
The pub will be run by Pete and Emma Bowman and has created a total of 50 new jobs.
Mr Bowman said: "Myself, Emma and the team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and we are confident that it will be a great addition to Bideford's community."
The pub's name refers to the heroine of the historical novel 'Westward Ho!', which was set in Bideford and written by Charles Kingsley in 1854.
The best-selling book marked the beginning of the town's tourist trade, as readers came to see the sites Kingsley used in the story.
The new pub will be open from 8am until midnight Sunday to Thursday and 8am until 1am on Friday and Saturday. Food will be served throughout the day, until 10pm every day.
The Rose Salterne will specialise in real ales, serving a wide range of beers, including those from local and regional brewers.
