A GIANT pub chain has completed the final stage of purchasing a site in Bideford.
J D Wetherspoons has now completed on the building in Bridgeland Street, which was formerly Bideford Carpet and Furnishing Centre.
The site is now ready to be transformed into the two storey pub although Wetherspoons have been unable to confirm when the pub might open.
Eddie Gershon, Wetherspoon spokesman, said the company had completed the purchase yesterday and has already got planning and license permission but that Wetherspoons cannot confirm when work will start.
When work does start it is expected to be completed within three months although it may take longer with other Wetherspoon sites being worked on across the country. The new Wetherspoons will cost £1 million and is expected to employ 40-45 people.
Bideford Carpet and Furnishing Centre has now relocated and opened their new premises in Hows Yard in Bideford. Peter May, from the centre, said:
"We first opened on Monday after spending most of January moving from the old site.
"We have a much bigger range of stock here and on site parking which we have never had before."
The company's new address is Hows Yard, New Road, Bideford, EX39 2AQ.
