BARNSTAPLE seniors' clash with Devonport at North Devon Leisure Centre was expected to be a close match – and it finished in a 9-9 draw.

There was never more than a goal between the teams.

Barnstaple trailed 8-7 with five minutes left. Nigel Smith scored his third goal to level and when Jack Hutchens struck soon after, the home team led 9-8.

Within a minute Richard Harding scored for Devonport and despite shots from both teams in a tense final minute the match ended level.

Barnstaple's other scorers were Sam Wordley (two), James Gardner (two) and Dan Tabbener. Matt Bull, Alex Bunney, Mike Taylor, Charlie Elliott, Ryan Bennett, Haydn Lawson and Andy Martin completed the team.

On Saturday, Barnstaple hosted their annual invitation Mayoral Trophy tournament against Enfield, Aston and Okehampton. Barum beat Enfield 6-3 to take back the London Devon Cup contested between the sides over the last three years. With wins over Aston and Okehampton, they were also the tournament winners.

Defender Graham Stone was an excellent stand-in goalkeeper.
