ACADEMY of Beach Sports members were out in force representing the South West at the Inter Regional Championships at the University of East London.

Twelve Academy girls were in action. Ellie Austin, Ellie Cranch, Anaya Evans, Helen Farr, Niamh Marshall and Sophie Watts played for the under-16s. Nicole and Lauren Short, Lauren Huggins, Rebecca Fallow, Emma Featherstone and Holly Coles were in the under-14 team.

Over two days, the under-16s did not lose a set, beating opponents from Yorkshire, London, the East, South East and Midlands to take the national title for the second year running.

The under-14 A team finished fifth out of nine teams and the B team were sixth.

The under-15 boys team consisted of players from seven clubs, including the Academy.

After an early defeat to the East in their seven-team pool, they just had to keep winning to at least get the runners-up spot. However, a 2-0 defeat to eventual champions London meant the South West had to settle for third.
