A VIDEO created by a North Devon-based professional photographer has gone viral on the internet.

Rob Tibbles, 40 and from Barnstaple, shot all the footage for the surf video within two hours at a beauty spot near Croyde.

The footage, which was shot at Down End Point, lasts for just over three minutes and features Braunton surfers Simon Skelton and Kenny Wells.

It is the first video created by Rob, who is a keen surf photographer.

Rob, who works at the Journal as well as freelancing, has been surprised by the positive reaction the video has received.

He said: “It’s the first surf video I’ve done and I was going to be happy with a few hundred views.

“I had an idea of what I was supposed to do and how you’re meant to string it all together but it was pretty new to me.

“I’ve never done any video editing before but a few friends have and I guess I’ve just picked stuff up from them.”

The stunning footage was all captured on his Nikon camera on January 9. The soundtrack to the video, which received more than 2,000 views on YouTube within 24 hours, features a song by Mortehoe-born band Small Town Jones.

Rob said he wanted the video’s soundtrack to feature a local artist.

He said: “I knew I wanted to use a local band and it didn’t take long to remember Small Town Jones.

“As soon as I heard Freight Ships I knew I had to use it. The lyrics, tempo and feel seemed to fit perfectly the vibe of the afternoon.”

The finished piece has already received over 7,500 views from people in 64 different countries.

Rob said: “The thing I’m most pleased with is the look and feel the video captures of North Devon on a golden afternoon.

“I definitely want to do more video-making. This was a chance for me to try it out and I’m chuffed with the result. I’ve had such a good reaction but there’s pressure now on the next one I do because it will have to be even better.

“I love North Devon and when the waves are good it’s the best place in the world. I really hope the video shows that to some extent.”
