ENGLAND won the Raymond Trophy despite a first defeat for Royal North Devon golfer Jimmy Mullen in the Home Internationals.
England defeated reigning champions Scotland 9-6 at Ganton Golf Club in Scarborough, Yorkshire, yesterday.
After a fierce battle in the morning foursomes, which finished level, England won six of the afternoon singles and halved another to complete a clean sweep in the three-day competition.
Terry Casey, the England captain, said: “This is an amazing and wonderful feeling.
“It was an extraordinary performance by my team and having lost last year this is special.
“The players were fantastic and I have run out of superlatives to describe them.
“We beat three really strong sides here but I always felt we had a real chance this week.”
Scotland finished third as Ireland secured second place by beating Wales 8-7.
