A police helicopter spent more than 20 minutes searching for a missing 44-year-old from Bideford on Saturday night.
Torridge sector inspector Andy Brock confirmed the helicopter was trying to locate the man who disappeared from Ayres Close following a domestic incident.
The helicopter spotted the man at around 7.20pm but had to return for fuel so the matter was reported to police on the ground.
The man was located at Nuttaberry Hill in Bideford just before 8pm.
Various reports came in from people wondering what was happening in the area.
Kim Hammerton, who lives in Bideford, said the helicopter looked as though it was hovering over woodland at Devonshire Park at around 7.20pm.
“There are loads of people coming out of their doors and looking,” she said. “I thought it was going backwards at one point but it was just hovering there.”
People also took to Twitter to talk about what they had seen.
