A NORTH Devon town will welcome 50 French guests next month as part of a twinning association event.

South Molton has been twinned with market town Livarot in southern Normandy since 1975 and groups from both towns have travelled back and forth every year, sampling the different lifestyle and making friends.

Now South Molton's town council has organised a civic reception for May 1. The French delegation will take in some of North Devon's countryside and enjoy a dinner and dance evening before returning home on May 4.

The town's association will also be celebrating the success of two of its members who are being presented with genuine yellow jerseys from the Tour de France. One will go to town mayor Stephen White, who is being given the honourary title of Confrerie de Fromage, becoming a member of Livarot's Brotherhood of Cheese.

The second jersey will go to June Smith, coach to young cyclist David Millar who has competed in the race.
