CHILDREN at a North Devon infant school have been emulating their cycling heroes in a week of biking fun and games.
The event, held at South Molton Community Infant School, saw children take part in a number of bike-based activities to coincide with the Tour of Britain.
Events included cycling proficiency tests and a spectacular BMX stunt display from Andrei Burton and his team.
The week culminated in a hectic race around school grounds to celebrate the arrival of the Tour on Britain in Devon on Friday.
Headteacher Tom Parkin said he was delighted with the success of the week, and hoped it would become an annual event.
He said: “They have loved it, they have really, really enjoyed it.
“We are hoping to make it into an annual event really. They have done similar things in the past few years but this year has been bigger and better.”
The week also saw all year one and two pupils take part in free cycling lessons through Westcoutry Cycle training.
Tom said: “Obviously we are only an infant school so you wouldn’t expect them all to have bikes but we have also had lessons to help them ride.
“We have used part of the sports premium budget to make sure that we could put it on for the kids for free.
“What we didn’t want was children to be excluded so we have ensured all the children in school can take part.”
