AN ENTERTAINING local derby between Bideford Nomads and Torrington seconds finished 24-24 in front of a large crowd.

Torrie were disappointed not to claim victory having taken an early 12-0 lead and dominated the final quarter.

Nomads responded with tries from James Charles, Mark Westcott (two) and Fergal Milne either side of half time. Westcott added two conversions for a 24-12 lead.

Prompted by a fine display from hooker Gavin Mitchell, the visitors fought back.

George Ward added to his two first-half tries and flanker Shane Maddock went over to tie the scores with Rob Bewes adding a second conversion.

Bideford had to call on their tackling skills to deny Torrington victory with battling performances by young players Mike Bissett, Jamie Evans and Troy Hicks.

Mitch Barclay was named man of the match for an all-round display of running and tackling.
