A SOUTH Molton man is hoping to complete a 100-mile cycling challenge to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance.
Tom Austen, 31, is taking part in the Exmoor Beast Cycle Challenge on October 20, which sees competitors race along the roads of North Devon.
Having entered the challenge less than ten weeks before it takes place, Tom said confidence among his friends and family was low.
He said: "I have had so many people say that I'm not going to be able to do it – I'm going to complete it if I have to push the bike the whole way.
"My family have mainly been mocking me. My wife didn't think I would even sign up, let alone do it."
However, Tom said his choice to race on his own mountain bike raised the most concerns among his colleagues at James Sherlock BMW Motorcycles in South Molton.
He said: "Everybody keeps saying it's not the best one to be doing something like this on.
"As long as it doesn't fall to bits and break I think I'll be fine, and even if it does I will carry it just to prove them wrong."
