TWENTY-ONE giant trucks will head for Devon early next year, bringing Disney's award-winning musical The Lion King.
Plymouth's Theatre Royal will host the biggest production to tour the UK for a seven-week season, giving audiences the opportunity to experience the global phenomenon.
With hundreds of masks, puppets and more than 700 elaborate costumes representing 26 different types of animal, 21 giant trucks are used to transport everything across the country in a tour lasting more than two years.
Fiona Thomas, vice-president of Live Entertainment for The Walt Disney Company EMEA, said: "We are delighted to be bringing The Lion King to Plymouth. After our experience of staging Mary Poppins in this magnificent theatre, we look forward to sharing this legendary production with audiences in the South West."
The musical is based on the beloved Academy award-winning animated film about Simba, the lion cub, as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his role of King.
To date, this new touring production has enjoyed sell-out, record-breaking seasons in Bristol, Manchester and Dublin.
Disney's The Lion King is at the Theatre Royal from January 31 to March 15. Tickets from £27.50 on 01752 267222 or www.theatreroyal.com.
