MORE than 4,200 people were caught watching TV without a licence in Devon during 2012.

They included 130 in Barnstaple and 110 in Bideford according to figures from TV Licensing.

The average evasion rate remains at just over 5 per cent.

Warren Carr, of TV Licensing, said: "In order to be fair to the law-abiding majority who do pay for their licence, we will continue to pursue the small minority of people who do not pay.

"We do understand some people may find it difficult to pay in one go, which is why we offer numerous ways to spread the cost."

A colour TV Licence currently costs £145.50. Visit www.tvlicensing.co.uk
