THANKS to donations an amateur boxing club now has a full-size training ring.

Torrington Cavaliers have given £1,500 to The Torrington Police Amateur Boxing Club. The new ring will play a crucial part in training sessions.

Club coach Heathcliffe Pettifer said: "Ring time is crucial for skills and experience. It also means we could, in theory, invite other clubs to train and spar with us, further improving our boxers.

"Our club has moved on so quickly in a short space of time, it's unbelievable. Without support from the Cavaliers, it's likely that it wouldn't have happened this way."

Mr Pettifer said the club, formed six months ago, can have up to 30 juniors training in the evenings. Those wanting to join can phone head coach Gavin Lane on 07901654999.

Sessions run on a Monday and Friday at 7pm for juniors and 8pm for seniors. Log on to the group's facebook page www.facebook.com/torringtonpoliceamateurboxingclub
