FIVE businesses had their telephone lines cut in Lynton earlier this week.
Sometime between Sunday and Monday, police received reports that a telegraph pole had been climbed and five telephone wires cut.
Subsequently, Short & Sweet on Lee Road in Lynton was ransacked in a burglary sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Police say the offences are possibly linked and said they seem to have been carried out in quite a professional manner.
Officers have since increased their overnight presence in the area.
North Devon sector inspector Roger Bartlett said: “We have not seen a series like this before but are monitoring to make sure there aren’t further incidents.
“These offences might have been committed by people from outside the area but we are keeping an open mind.”
Officers have also been liaising with Avon and Somerset Police.
