THERE are two chances to experience a Lundy visit Monty Halls-style this weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday the adventurous Great Escapes presenter will be running trips to the Marine Conservation Zone aboard Jason, his eight-metre Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). Setting sail from Appledore, the intrepid seafarer will be sharing knowledge and telling tales of his finest days at sea.
Once ashore at Lundy, Mr Halls will lead an exploration of the rockpools, one of his favourite subjects. Further inland, the island's flora and fauna, Sika deer, puffins, Lundy ponies and lots more will be scrutinised with the help of the Lundy warden.
The producer and director of Monty's Great Escape series - Martin Pailthorpe - lives in North Devon. Since Monty set up his eco-tourism business in Dartmouth, he has worked on persuading him to bring his boat up to the north coast.
"Islands like Lundy really draw me," said Monty. "They always have a fascinating history. The wildlife is amazing, and the reefs and seal colonies make diving there some of the best in the country."
The Saturday trip is aimed specifically at divers who want to explore those habitats, as well as spend time ashore.
The Sunday trip is geared towards non-divers, but there will also be the chance to snorkel in some of the clearest waters in the country.
