Summerhouse fire in Umberleigh, three fire engines attended the scene

THREE fire engines attended a summerhouse fire in East Street, Chittlehampton, Umberleigh this morning (May 18).

The fire service were alerted to the incident at 7.34am.

One fire engine from South Molton and two fire engines from Barnstaple attended.

Fire crews confirmed a building measuring eight metres by eight metres, used as a garden summerhouse was “severely damaged” by the fire.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Fire crews extinguished the fire using four breathing apparatus, one compressed air foam systems jet, one hose reel jet and a thermal image camera and small tools.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.”
