THE KINGSLEY School team finished just outside the top three in a national competition at the weekend.

The girls had a good competition but a few mistakes on the floor meant they missed out on medals at the under-15 Girls Independent Schools Gymnastics Association contest in Kent. Sophie Johns was fourth in the individual competition.

Last month, she took bronze in the Independent Schools Association competition in Stoke-on-Trent where Kingsley were pipped to team gold by Adcote School.

Sophie was joined in a fine team performance by Sarah Foxton, Daisy Scott, Gemma Beams and Jasmine Boyd.

In the Devon Schools competition in Exeter, Daisy led Molly Gardener, Eleanor Barker and Emily Hughes to the team gold while claiming individual gold herself. Molly won individual silver and Emily and Eleanor placed in the top six.

Kingsley's gymnasts return to Stoke for the Trio National Finals on Saturday before taking part in the North Devon Schools event at Falcons Gymnastics Academy, Barnstaple.

Bradworthy Academy won gold in the girls' under-11 and under-9 sections at the Devon Schools floor and vault competition, while the under-11 mixed team took silver. Cara Philips and Cerys Lewis won individual bronze medals.
