A PEARCE Construction Barnstaple site manager has been presented with the Building Safety Group's Site Manager Health and Safety Award for the Devon and Cornwall Region. Richard Young received the award in recognition of his outstanding work in all aspects of safety on the Woodville redevelopment project in Barnstaple.

The project involved the demolition of various blocks of social housing before new construction work could commence.

It was Richard's proactive management of the process, including asbestos removal, new build development and protection of the public within an active housing estate, that secured the award.

Having joined Pearce Construction 16 years ago as an apprentice carpenter, Richard's enthusiasm and quick understanding of modern innovations were soon recognised.

Pearce supported his development and he rose to site management in just eight years.

David Parsons, managing director of Pearce Construction, said: "I am thrilled that Richard has won this award. It is well-deserved recognition of all of his hard work and attention to detail.

"We work really hard to ensure that we provide both quality and value in all our projects, while always paying close attention to the safety of everyone involved and our success is all down to our dedicated team. We are very proud of Richard."
