BRITISH soul diva Beverley Knight will headline Barnstaple’s Christmas light switch on, it has been announced.
This year’s event will take place on Thursday, November 22 in order to coincide with the first of Barnstaple’s late night Christmas shopping nights.
As well as earning a legion of celebrity fans including David Bowie, Prince and Jamiroquai, Beverly Knight also wowed an audience of one billion as part of the London 2012 Paralympics opening ceremony.
Craig Bulley, of Barnstaple’s Town Centre Management team which organises the event, said: “Beverley has been one of the UK’s most consistent artists of the past 15 years and has scored several top 10 albums.
“She’s also sold over a million albums in the UK.
“We are really excited that she is coming to Barnstaple as we know people are going to love her and really enjoy the show we have organised for them.
“Barnstaple is set to dazzle and delight the crowds.”
This year is the first year the Christmas light switch on has taken place on a Thursday.
Barnstaple TCM changed the date from a Sunday to a Thursday in response to retailers’ wishes to stage the event on the first of the late night shopping nights.
More musical acts and entertainment will be announced over the coming weeks.
