PARENTS searching for shoes for their children can now visit a shop dedicated to children's shoes in Paiges Lane, just off Cross Street in Barnstaple.

Treetop Shoes aims to offer a fresh new approach to shoe shopping. Owner Louise Hughes moved to North Devon from Sussex and was struck by how many of the leading brands of children's footwear, such as Geox and Lelli Kelly, were not available to buy locally.

"As a mother of three children, all with different fitting needs, I believed there must be an alternative to trips to Exeter or Bristol for shoe shopping," said Louise.

After detailed market research and positive reception from suppliers, Louise invested in several key brands and signed the lease on the grade two listed property near the Cattle Market.

Louise and her colleague Michelle Sampson have both completed a Start-rite fitting course and Louise is about to complete her qualification with the Society of Shoe Fitters, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of fitting and foot health.

"We have been overwhelmed by support from families and local businesses, and our Facebook page has helped us to reach our target market effectively. We are proud to stock an extensive range of Start-rite shoes, from pre-walkers through to school shoes and we offer a full measure and fit service. Our aim is to offer families greater choice of quality footwear and take some of the stress out of shoe shopping by offering a play area and excellent service."

Treetop Shoes is open Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30am to 5pm.
