BARBROOOK Service Station in Lynton was named Best Pace Site in the SuperStation Awards 2013.
The SuperStation retail industry awards, hosted by Certas Energy, recognise and reward the highest standards in UK forecourt retailing.
"We are over the moon with our award," said Barbrook proprietors, Lesley and Richard Goodman. "We are a little taken aback to reach this stage and to be chosen as the winner is even more of a surprise.
"It's been a whirlwind year, having taken over the site just under 12 months ago. Ultimately our success boils down to customer service and the relationship we've established with our customers.
"We can see from the other finalists that the standard is very high, so our selection as winner is particularly significant. We're not a huge site in terms of volume, and petrol retailing is a new profession for my husband and I, so we've appreciated the support received from the Pace team hugely, not to mention the expertise of the superb drivers who've managed to get to us with our deliveries even though our location is somewhat off the beaten track."
Lesley and Richard took ownership of Barbrook in December 2012, after a change in career from venison farming. As Barbrook is the only filling station for 14 miles, they focused on gaining the support of the local community, an objective they achieved by supporting other local businesses and selling local produce in the shop.
Ramsay MacDonald, Certas Energy retail director, said: "To win a SuperStation award is a mark of quality and professionalism. There is a tough selection process, so the three sites selected in this category really stood out from the competition."
