THE battle to lose weight has continued for a Barnstaple couple who appeared on Channel Four’s Secret Eaters.

Glyn and Louise Smale starred in the show last week, where their eating habits were secretly monitored over five days by a team of private investigators.

After receiving extensive criticism over their diets, Glyn, a night-shift manager at Perrigo, and chef Louise were then given tips and tricks for a healthier lifestyle.

By the end of the programme Glyn had lost more than one-and-a-half stone, and Louise nearly a stone.

Since filming the show in November last year, Glyn said he has continued to lose weight, shedding more than two stone since the beginning of the programme.

“I haven’t regretted signing up for it for one minute,” he said. “For us it wasn’t as difficult to adapt as for some of the others on the show. It was more the alcohol and the portion sizes.

“There have been the odd little comments in jest but the majority of people have been very supportive. They know the reasons behind us wanting to lose weight.

“As I said on the show my dad was one of the main reasons why I signed up, so I had the motivation.”

During the programme, Glyn revealed his underlying concerns for his health after his father suffered a fatal heart attack aged 42.

In addition to improving their diets, Glyn has continued to increase his fitness, and is now training for a charity cycle ride to Paris.

“I’m doing a lot more exercise now and will be cycling from London to Paris for Macmillan. It is one of the goals that I have set myself.”
