BUYERS travelled from the far north of Britain to bid for the second half of Rupert and Barbara Dod's cattle from Withiel Farm on Exmoor.

One consignment has gone to a farm in Scotland and others are now in Hereford and Kidderminster.

A large proportion of the herd went to local buyers. They included Aberdeen Angus,Simmental, British Blue, Charolais and South Devon.

The family is reorganising its agricultural enterprise while continuing to breed some pedigree cattle. The first sale in May was of 194 beef bred cows and calves, stock bulls and breeding heifers.

The latest entry included 76 cows with calves at foot, all being this year's calves, and offered an opportunity to buy some of the quality stock that has been the result of many years' work.

Trade was kick-started by the Blue X cows which sold to an average of £1,510 and peaked at £2,060.
