SUMMER building work at a Barnstaple school has led to the opening of a new set of classrooms.
The modern foreign languages building at The Park Community School was officially opened by North Devon MP Nick Harvey. The project cost £750,000 and consists of six new classrooms and a computer room.
The centre completes an almost £7 million building programme to improve the school's facilities.
Head teacher David Atton said: "All pupils study both Spanish and French from Year 7, with the opportunity to begin German too for GCSE.
"This significant investment confirms how highly we value and promote modern foreign languages as an essential aspect of a good education and preparation for the opportunities and challenges of higher education, adult life and employment.
We live in a world in which young people need to open their eyes to the possibilities and prepare to enjoy life in a global context."
