RESIDENTS whose homes or businesses were flooded over the winter can apply for a grant to make their properties more resilient.

The Government's Repair and Renew Grant Scheme means people whose properties were flooded between December 1 and March 31 can apply for as much as £5,000.

The aim of the grant is to help people with the cost of buying and installing new measures to reduce the chances of flooding. Driveway barriers, replacing doors and windows with water-resistant alternatives and moving electricity sockets to a safer level will all defend a property against flooding.

Property owners who have already fitted new measures can apply for the grant retrospectively to cover the cost.
