THE REGION'S rugby clubs are backing North Devon Hospice's new fundraising event.
Man Trek is a men-only sponsored walk along the Tarka Trail on Sunday, February 10.
Setting off from Bideford Rugby Club or Instow Yacht Club, the walkers will finish at Barnstaple Rugby Club in time to watch the England v Ireland RBS Six Nations match.
This week, leading players from North Devon's clubs got together to encourage people to sign up.
Gerard Fawcitt, from North Devon Hospice's fundraising team, said: "We're delighted all five rugby clubs in North Devon are supporting the event.
"There is a good, friendly inter-club rivalry and I know they will be trying to outdo each other as to who can raise the most money."
Inspired by the popular Nightwalk for women, Man Trek, sponsored by Applegate, offers an 11-mile route starting in Bideford or seven miles from Instow.
At the halfway stage at Fremington Quay Café, walkers will be refuelled with a free cup of tea and a hot pasty courtesy of Blackwell's of Bideford.
When they reach the finish line they will be treated to a free pint of beer, thanks to St Austell Brewery.
Leo Cooper, who plays for Ilfracombe and is communications officer for North Devon Hospice, said: "Having worked at North Devon Hospice for six years, I have seen first hand how our doctors, nurses and counsellors make a difference to people's lives.
"Man Trek is a chance for the blokes of North Devon to show their support for the hospice and also enjoy a cracking day."
