MULTI-million pound roadworks to improve a Barnstaple roundabout are yet to cause traffic problems.
A £1.2million scheme to ease congestion, improve drainage and signage and enlarge Roundswell roundabout was due to begin yesterday.
But so far work has only been carried out off the carriageway, with various machinery moved on to land near to the site next to the B3232 towards Torrington.
Devon County Council confirmed these types of schemes usually begin with off-road work, but said work should have begun yesterday.
The scheme will see up to six months of disruption, with the county council confirming lanes will need to be closed during the work.
The scheme will see numerous changes made to the roundabout in a bid to combat the junction’s chronic congestion problems; including the enlargement of the roundabout itself and the widening of entry roads from the A39 from two to three lanes.
