His passion for organic food and innovative approach to running a sustainable business is well-known in Westcountry farming circles.

So when Guy Watson stepped forward to receive his BBC's Farmer of the Year award it was a popular choice.

Guy founded Devon-based Riverford, the UK's leading organic vegetable box company.

At the BBC Good Food Show held recently in Birmingham, he said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to receive this award.

"From the outset, my aim has been to produce organic food with flavour, look after my team, my suppliers and the land, and encourage people to eat seasonally. Twenty five years on Riverford has shown that all this is possible."

Adam Henson, BBC Countryfile presenter, who was one of the judges, said: "We were looking for someone who is passionate about what they do, who is entrepreneurial, innovative and a great communicator and Guy Watson is all of those things. He has taken Riverford from a concept to a real business."
