A search and rescue helicopter from RMB Chivenor was called to assist in the search for a ‘high risk’ missing person in South Devon yesterday.
The crew from the North Devon base were called upon in the afternoon to help search for the missing man.
Volunteer rescuers from the Ashburton branch of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team commenced the search in the Bovey Tracey area at around 3pm.
The search team, who were joined by police and the Sea King helicopter from Chivenor, spent seven hours searching for the man.
A spokesman for the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team said: "After seven hours of searching the River Bovey, fields and woodland, the team was stood down around 10.20pm.
"Although the gentleman's van was located, no further sitings of the man have been reported."
"Although the team has been stood down, the case is still open with the police and the team may be called on for further searches."
