BOXING

FOUR boxers from the new Torrington Police ABC contributed to a proud night in Penzance.

Toby Hookway showed his potential in a skills bout and there were wins in the green vest for Joseph Tarrant, Billy Butler and Sean Cassidy Ceed.

Butler emerged victorious against Kyle Pearson, of St Ives Bay, after a brilliant final round.

Using his long reach and firing off fast left jabs, he made a strong start but Pearson did enough to edge the opening round.

As the Torrie boxer landed combinations to head and body, Pearson went on the attack to set up an intriguing finale.

In the round of the night, Butler showed his strength, unloading a barrage of lefts and rights to take the decision by majority.

Cassidy Ceed continued the success against Marcus Gallaway, of Falmouth and Penryn, with both boxers impressing on their senior debuts.

Gallaway imposed himself early but Cassidy Ceed, who represented Bideford three times as a junior, kept his composure and countered with heavy shots.

He maintained the workrate, stunning the Cornishman at the start of the second with a right-hand left-hook combination

Gallaway needed an eight-count but was soon rocked by another string of punches and the referee stopped the contest.

Tarrant, 15, made his debut against Kyle Pearson, of Sturminster Newton, in a tight battle at 57kg.

Countering sharply to body and head, he took control with neat footwork and made sure of a unanimous win with a fierce left-right combination in the final seconds.

For Hookway, 11, the skills contest against an opponent from Torquay demonstrated his ability to slip punches and counter with precision.
