A wild billy goat has been killed in a shooting in the Valley of Rocks.
It was discovered by a member of the public while they were out walking on Hollerday Hill.
The goat was still alive when it was found but had to be put down by a vet due to the extent of its injuries.
It is believed the goat was shot in the head with a rifle sometime between Wednesday, November 28, and Thursday, November 29.
The goats are feral but are controlled through a welfare managament program run between Market Vets, Exmoor National Park Authority, the RSPCA and Lynton and Lynmouth Town Council.
This particular billy was of particular importance in the area as it had distinctive markings and was being kept for breeding due to its good genes.
The shooting has been recorded as cruelty to a wild animal.
