A RECORD £835 million was spent by Barclays Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United were responsible for a huge portion of that as they completed the £13.8 million signing of Ajax and Holland star Daley Blind and the £6 million loan switch of Monaco’s Colombia striker Radamel Falcao on deadline day.
New United manager Louis van Gaal had already contributed a British record £59.7 million to the total when he brought in Argentina winger Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.
The other big deadline-day transfer saw Danny Welbeck make a £16 million move from Man United to Arsenal. Fellow United striker Javier Hernandez also left Old Trafford on loan, joining Real Madrid.
Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards joined Italian side Fiorentina on loan, while Hull brought in four players – Abel Hernandez, Hatem Ben Arfa, Gaston Ramirez and Mo Diame.
One player who could not secure a deadline-day move was former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe. The Daily Telegraph reports that the Toronto FC player travelled back to England from Canada but could not find a Premier League club to take him on.
