A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of armed robbery following an incident in Holsworthy.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the suspect was arrested late yesterday afternoon.

His arrest is in connection with an incident at the Bazaar shop in the square in which a man allegedly pulled out two kitchen knives and demanded a worker to open the till.

Philippa Thompson, a spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the woman refused to open the till during the alleged incident which occurred at around 3.20pm on Wednesday.

She said the cashier “began to scream” which allegedly “spooked” the offender who fled from the store.

It is also alleged the suspect stole some Lynx body spray and tobacco.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Dog handlers, a police helicopter and officers on foot helped in the search for the suspect yesterday, who police said was last seen running past McColl’s.

The arrested man remains in police custody in Exeter at this time and is helping police with their investigation.
