A man who allegedly robbed Warren's bakery in Barnstaple on Wednesday afternoon was armed with a gun, police have confirmed.
The man, who entered the shop around 4.30pm, threatened a woman shopkeeper, aged in her mid-50s, at the Boutport Street bakery before making off with more than £150 cash.
Barnstaple CID have released this image of the man they would like to speak to in connection with the crime. The CCTV image was taken in Wells Street
He is described as being white, aged between 25 and 40, between 5"8 and 5"11 and of stocky build.
Detective Inspector Praveen Naidoo of Barnstaple CID said: "It appears the man presented a hand gun during the incident and we are treating this as an armed robbery.
"The man, who was wearing distinctive clothing, fled the scene at a busy time of day so someone must have seen him.
"It is also likely that he will be known locally and will have spoken to a friend or partner about what he has done.
"The incident was particularly upsetting and distressing for the female shop assistant and we are looking for a quick resolution.
"We consider this man to be armed and potentially dangerous and would not encourage anyone to approach him if they recognise him.
"If anyone sees him they must call 999 straight away."
