POLICE are investigating an allegation of assault following a confrontation at the Park Hotel during a Slay The Array meeting on Saturday.
The meeting followed a parade through town by opponents of plans for the Atlantic Array, a proposed wind farm of up to 240 turbines which would be sited off the North Devon Coast.
But it turned ugly when one man was ejected from the meeting and required treatment by paramedics.
The 59-year-old Barnstaple man was a supporter of plans for the Array.
Police spokesman Bill Pascoe said: “The aggrieved was told to wait and was then approached by what’s described as the main offender.
“It’s alleged he was pushed from the room by the man who then punched and kicked him.
“Four more suspects are alleged to have joined him and encouraged the main offender.”
The victim suffered bruising to his leg and ribs in the incident and Mr Pascoe said police would be examining CCTV footage of the incident.
Anyone who saw the incident or has information about it should call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 quoting crime reference number CB/13/2624.
