THE unsung heroes of North Devon were recognised last night at the first ever North Devon Journal Community Awards.
Guests enjoyed a three-course evening meal prior to the awards ceremony, which was held at the Highbullen Hotel near Umberleigh.
Nominees, who were put forward by members of the public, were joined by family and friends at the inaugural event.
A total of eight awards were dished out, including the Community Champion award, Child of Courage award, Community Health Worker award and the Editor’s Choice award.
After the awards were handed out, the winner of the Community Fundraiser award, Tamsin Ball, gave an incredible live music performance.
To round off the evening, an auction was held to raise money for the Children's Hospice South West.
More than £750 was raised in total for the charity and the winning bidders got take home prizes which included a family ticket to RHS Rosemoor, a round of golf for four at Highbullen Hotel, artwork and a Catherine Bishop bangle.
