These photos show the dramatic moment a man was lashed by crashing waves as he stood on a balcony in Ilfracombe this morning.
The series of photos, taken by Journal photographer Mike Southon, show the man standing on the balcony at the back of Damien Hirst’s Number 11 The Quay restaurant.
The man, dressed in chef whites, can be seen watching the large waves.
The sequence of photos shows him getting soaked by huge waves which crashed on to the balcony.
The public have been warned to steer clear of the coastline as 30ft waves whipped up by 70mph winds continue to spill over coastal defences across the region.
At the height of the storm yesterday, the Environment Agency had issued 13 severe flood warnings for Devon and Cornwall, indicating a danger to life, and more than 100 warnings for the entire South West.
