A large fir tree has fallen onto the A361 North Devon Link Road today causing disruption for motorists.

Drivers are currently having to drive around the fallen tree, which fell near Aller Cross at some point this afternoon.

This photo shows the size of the tree, which can be seen blocking a whole lane approximately two miles from South Molton.

Hugh Griffith, who works at Devon County’s Councils’ highways operations control centre, confirmed the incident on Twitter.

At 3.40pm, he wrote: “A361 Aller Cross, Barnstaple direction fallen tree passable with care #devonroads.”

Officers and highways crews were sent to the scene to help clear the fallen debris.

Severe gales across North Devon have caused disruption throughout the week, with a stable roof being blown off in Holsworthy and a lorry being blown onto a car on Torridge Bridge.
