MICHAEL SMITH scored a hat-trick of tries in Bideford under-16s' 31-12 win at Exeter Chiefs.
Bradley Newton Clarke and Josh Lindo also crossed, while Billy Cockwill kicked three conversions.
Bideford scored within a minute through Newton Clarke's fine interception try and they went on to lead 19-0 at half time with Smith crossing twice.
It could have been more but for poor decision making in midfield and some staunch defending by Exeter.
The second half brought tries from Smith and Lindo before Exeter's determination was rewarded by two well-worked tries of their own.
In a cracking match full of running rugby, Barnstaple under-14s were edged out 14-12 at Crediton.

Barum went close on a couple of occasions to extending their lead in the second half but it was Crediton who grabbed the win with a converted try.
