North Devon success at Junior County Tennis Championships

EMERSON Styles led a North Devon victory charge at the Devon Junior County Championships, writes Tony Atkins.

Emerson, Lewie Parker and Bradley Phillips were at the heart of the action on finals day at the South Devon Tennis Centre in Ivybridge.

Emerson, who trains at the Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple, beat Patrick Daykin, from Plymouth, 6-1, 4-6, 11-9 in the final of the under-18 singles.

In the doubles, Westward Ho! player Lewie teamed up with the beaten singles finalist to defeat Erik Wilson and Hugh Ryder 7-5, 6-1.

It was Lewie’s fourth Devon doubles title, having won two at under-14 level and now two in the under-18 age group.

After a successful summer, Bradley, from Barnstaple, combined well with under-14 singles champion Pierce Widdecombe to beat top seeds Joel While and Joel Greatrex, of Torquay, 6-1, 6-4 in the doubles final.
